RED LAKE REPORT May 6th, 2008 THE ICE HAS LEFT UPPER RED LAKE. FISHING OPENER 2008 IS A GO. We have seen a lot of fish making their annual spawning run up the creeks and rivers, this year has been a little different with northern, walleye, and suckers all in these waterways at the same time, Mother Nature has really thrown the fish for-a-loop. I would say those who will be fishing from a boat will be best off with a slip bobber rig set 12" off bottom with a 1/4oz. jig tipped with a fathead minnow, fish the first break or drop off where it goes from 3' too 8'deep . Those fishing the rivers should tie on a 1/4 - 3/8oz. jig right to your line tipped with a fathead minnow then cast a little up steam and slowly retrieve until you feel that bump-bump then let them have it. UPPER RED LAKE RULES. Walleye Your allowed 3. All fish 17" - 26" must be immediately released. Just 1 of your walleyes may be over 26". Be gentle when releasing these fish. ( I Threw this one in only as a reminder)
Northern Your allowed 3. All fish 26" - 40" must be immediately released. Just 1 of your northern may be over 40". Please be gentle when releasing these fish. ( I just had to say it again )
Crappie Your allowed 10. Release a few gently for the future.
Perch that is Perch for those who don't read yellow. Your allowed 20 per day. Your allowed 40 in possession. Eat'em up best tasting fish anywhere.
><((((((,*> Slimy would really like all-ya-all to have a safe and successful opener and please respect each other, it's all suppose to be fun. Good Luck.
